Traffic Control

Traffic control is identified during pre-task planning as a critical hazard control and is reviewed during daily Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) and tailboard meetings. Pedestrian and vehicular traffic exposure is evaluated prior to the start of work and continuously reassessed as site conditions change. Controls are implemented in accordance with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), OSHA 29 CFR 1926 Subpart G, and applicable utility and owner requirements.

All traffic control personnel assigned to the work are trained and certified and have documented experience working within active roadways and live work zones. Roles, responsibilities, and communication protocols are clearly defined during pre-task briefings.

Engineering and administrative controls include the use of approved traffic control devices such as advance warning signage, arrow boards, and channelization devices. Communication controls include two-way radio communication, electronic audible warning devices, and standardized hand and signal communication. These controls are utilized to maintain positive traffic flow, prevent unauthorized access to the work area, minimize worker exposure to traffic hazards, and protect the public.

Our Traffic Control Teams are experts in reading and understanding Traffic Control Plans  to ensure work sites are set up to Department of Transportation standards.

Traffic control effectiveness is monitored throughout the shift, and adjustments are made immediately if conditions change to ensure continued compliance and safe operations, with the objective that all personnel and members of the public return home safely at the end of each workday.
